Employees reported that the shared visual cue fostered a sense of unity, reduced feelings of isolation, and created opportunities for informal social interaction. Participants frequently described the tradition as "something small that we're all in together," indicating that even arbitrary customs can acquire meaningful social value through repetition and collective participation.
The study also found that organizations with established Monday red shirt practices demonstrated higher levels of reported team cohesion and slightly improved perceptions of workplace optimism at the beginning of the workweek.
